This course is both fun and serious skills acquisition all rolled into one. They’re designed to mirror the process of human walking, so if the rider standing on a Segway leans forward, offsetting the balance, this clever little gizmo then moves forward to regain its balance just as human legs do to balance the body when walking. Computers and motors in the base of the device keep the Segway PT upright at all times. Steering is easy, you lean forward to go forward, lean back to go backward, and turn by using a “Lean Steer” handlebar, leaning it left or right. Five gyroscopic sensors and two tilt sensors are used to detect tilting of the device which indicates any departure from perfect balance, and these are supported by dual computers running specially-designed software at a rate of around 100 processes per second. But never mind the technical stuff, these things are FUN!
